Endocrine Works
In the biomedical sciences, advances in understanding of basic principles are very slow in coming. Breakthroughs in most fields occur irregularly – so advances come in fits and starts. Many original works, with public or private institutional support, are initially presented in learned societies and later in the literature in journal articles, while the material presented in books is generally a summary of what is already known. Medical books feature work published previously in specialty journals. That is the general system in place today; however, its great complexity and thematic heterogeneity tend to slow progress in science.
The vision for the future involves more focus with a new model for advancing scientific knowledge. It takes a different approach – one that encourages the presentation of new studies in book form, offering the author greater opportunity to develop themes, while providing the reader better understanding of the impact of new findings on “existing knowledge.” This model is reader- and institution-sponsored. For scientific work today, very advanced technologies are available for performing patient studies and writing about them in illustrated book form. This new vision is the foundation of the principal mission of Endocrine Works, a new publisher of self-crafted works, focusing on thyroid studies. The new thyroid book is its initial offering.
